Elaborate remodel of a grand family home, Co. Dublin.
An awkward structural column and dated, disjointed design had this client well and truly out of love with their current inherited kitchen. Their only idea was to remove the column, but with such a wide span to support 2 floors above, this was going to be a massive engineering project, so initially we tried to re-imagine the space as it was. Leaving the column removal as ‘plan B’, we set about this design creating different zones for different tasks to maximise functionality and catering for a multipurpose family room. This process very naturally led to the twin island design which was the key to unlocking the potential of the space.
