Bernie and Mark were comfortably settled in the home they shared with their three children and loved its location. However, after a decade in the property they were ready for a change. Making the decision to add an extension meant they could expand on from the original kitchen and fit a new sitting room and a covered outdoor sun room which now takes in the great views surrounding the property. “There are some lovely views around us and we wanted the new design to really make the most of them. I had one window above the sink in the old kitchen so this new found light is just fabulous.” With all the glass in the new extension the scheme lent itself to a contemporary design. “Doran Kitchens came highly recommended from our building company and had also fitted Bernie’s mother’s kitchen. Their reputation preceded them and as we had seen their handiwork first-hand, we didn’t even consider looking elsewhere,” “We wanted something contemporary but with the children in the house it also had to be homely. Eamon really fine-tuned the plan and made some practical suggestions to ensure the room worked for us.” Bernie and Mark chose a muted grey colour scheme with pale cabinetry and a darker tone on the floor. These shades complement the brickwork in the outdoor sitting area and mean that additional colour can be added in with the choice of soft furnishings in the living room. The long island incorporating the hob and prep areas meant that as well as ample workspace, the kitchen is a social area also exploiting the stunning views. Doran’s really did go above and beyond the call of duty. “We’re all just so delighted with the work, it’s much more practical and makes life so much easier. We’re never out of these rooms now.”
This contemporary kitchen was finished with a matt handless door finished in a soft grey with some wenge oak features. The worktop is a white quartz and the large glass splashback not only is practical and easy to maintain, but bounces the light from the large windows opposite, back into the room. The feature ceiling drop is used as a lighting feature and also houses the powerful Gutmann ceiling extractor. The tall bank of units on the site wall house the Bosch ovens, a 120cm pantry larder and full height side by side Hotpoint fridge & freezer.
