This 1930s stone farmhouse has been in Geraldine’s family for years. ‘I’ve lived here all my life; I was born here and now this is home to my husband and I and our three children. It’s lovely that we’ve been able to keep the farmhouse in our family all these years,’ says Geraldine. ‘Doran’s fitted my parents’ kitchen about twenty years ago, in this house and here we are two decades on getting a brand new design from the very same kitchen company!’ The couple opened up the interior without affecting the exterior of the farmhouse. We didn’t want to alter the facade of the house but were keen to maximise the internal living space. Originally a kitchen, dining area, utility room and small w/c has now become one large, open plan L-shaped kitchen including a relaxing TV room. ‘I went to the showroom armed with kitchen magazines. I knew what I wanted and just needed an expert to tell me how to achieve my dream kitchen. I found the company really easy to work with, very approachable and obliging at every stage.’
The layout of the room and the positioning of the windows determined that only two of the three walls would carry storage units so we incorporated plenty of cupboards and drawers into the substantial island. Comprising three sections – the curved chopping board with its walnut base and Emperador marble top, the main storage and worktop area in handpainted oak with quartz top and, of course, the magnificent cone shaped feature in solid walnut – this central feature is integral to the overall design.
The range cooker is yet another beautiful feature of this kitchen. Bright, airy and spacious, it really maximises the new available space in this sympathetically renovated farmhouse. ‘We’ve retained the same exterior yet achieved a modern open plan look with our kitchen which now has space for dining and lounging. I’m delighted with our new kitchen. I would highly recommend Doran’s to anyone!”
A classic look with a striking modern edge, this kitchen is an in-frame shaker design finished in both solid American walnut and ivory handpainted solid oak. The worktop perfectly shows the balance with the striking detail of the Emperador marble against the sharp clean look of the Silestone Quartz. Subtle quality features like dovetail drawers and soft curved edges add to the more unique design aspects like the circular area for chopping veg and the stunning conical walnut feature with heavy set solid tabletop. The large handpainted unit accommodates the Gaggenau fridge freezer, Neff ovens and warming drawer as well as a spacious larder. The island contains the main prep & sink area with Fisher & Paykel dish washer drawers.
